What is We Connect Students?
We Connect Students is the new online social community which places students in the centre of a well-connected, professional environment of employers and industry mentors looking to identify and attract graduate talent. WCS brings together students, employers and mentors in a focused, professional way while allowing criteria like social mobility to be taken into account.
Employers using WCS have access to a wide searchable pool of students, allowing them to improve hiring efficiency. There are easy to use administration tools, historical data can be accessed easily, and reviewer tools are available for access by any any designated employee.
Student profiles can be searched by academic achievements, extra-curricular activity and work experience. A general or bespoke video is also available, together with a psychometric profile. Employers can assign their own mentors, and can target students to invite them to careers events and to organise internships.
Students can use WCS from day 1, year 1 of their university career to create a professional profile and expose themselves to employers. Students can choose to be mentored by industry experts offering advice pertaining to the real world and be invited to events by employers. WCS provides students with the ability to network their way to success.
Who are we?
We Connect Students was founded in 2010 by Oliver Dickinson, who continued a long held passion for entrepreneurial ventures while studying Business at Plymouth University. His main aim in creating the site at that time was to help improve student retention, and his vision was that this could be done if students were made to feel they were a part of a like-minded online community which was specific and local. Since then, this web-based service has evolved to include mentoring (by graduates and industry professionals) and, most recently, to include graduate recruitment, enabling employers to search and connect with students.
In 2011 Clive Banks, formerly a senior banker in the City, joined Oliver as a co-founder. Clive’s financial acumen and his strategic vision have helped the company to continue to grow at a rapid pace.
In late 2011, the company hired additional staff to focus on employers and students, and this has entailed a move to a bigger office in Battersea, London.
The company has retained Eton Digital for web development. Eton Digital work day and night to ensure that our technology and user experience is top notch .
